HyVee & Hormel partner to donate peanut butter

Hy-Vee and Hormel Foods have partnered together through the Hormel Food's Spread the Smiles Campaign to donate 1,000 pounds of Skippy peanut butter to the Second Harvest Community Food Bank in St. Joseph.

Communications Manager for Hy-Vee, Josh Fisher, says that through the program they will be able to provide 11,000 pounds of peanut butter to different communities.

"We have an allocation of a donation that is part of a hunger program created by Hormel that we partner with them on.  And as part of that program, we're able to generate 11,000 pounds of Skippy Creamy Peanut Butter in our partnership to use as a donation."

The peanut butter will be distributed to food banks in 11 different communities. Fisher says that it was important to them that they gave back to St. Joseph.

"St. Joe is one of the ones we wanted to make sure we were able to provide a little extra lift to.  Obviously with some of the flooding that took place over the spring and summer, it's kind of a nice thing to try to give back to some people who've had it rough for a little bit."

Hy-Vee store employees presented the donation to Second Harvest Community Food Bank representatives yesterday. The 11,000 pound donation is enough to make 16,300 peanut butter sandwiches.
